Karen Yearsley – Learn Wild
I am based in Perthshire and run course in the Perthshire, Fife, Angus and Stirling areas. All my courses are run 100% outdoors. My tipi and wood burning stove offer a fantastic alternative to the classroom. My course capacity is 8.
Work and Qualifications
I come from a background of Rangering and Outdoor Education, and have been in end in this line of work since 1996. I have a BSc (hons) degree in Conservation Management and a PGCE (primary). Combined with my work background, it gives me a really broad based background for delivering Forest Schools training.
As well as running Forest Schools Training courses, I run various Forest Schools programmes. I have been running a whole school Forest Schools programme at my local primary school for the past 6 years. It has been fantastic to see the wee 5 year olds I started out with develop into independent and confident forest dwellers! This project was shortlisted for and then won the Parents as Partners Award at the Scottish Education Award this year.
I also work part time as a Ranger and have various Forest Schools groups on the go at work.
And in the big wide world..
Life though, is bigger than just Forest Schools and outside of this, I am keen skier, cyclist, hill walker and canoeist. Now that my kids are a wee bit older I enjoy sharing my interests with them. We are a family of keen musicains, so lots of traditional fiddle music in our house! And our little Border Collie Skye enjoys joining in all the fun too, although she is less keen on the fiddle music!
